There is no cure for alcoholism. People learn how to abstain and manage the addiction if they really want help. The best place in the world can’t help someone who does not really want it.

Answer by Danny S
“De-addiction” might a word one might apply to drugs. But alcohol is not a drug and alcoholism is not an addiction. (Even though there are hundreds of PAID “Addictions” professionals who want us to believe so)

Alcoholism is a mental obsession – a form of insanity, combined with a physical allergy which causes uncontrollable craving Nothing more – nothing less.

If it were simply an addiction – the problem would be solved once a good seventy-two hour withdrawal from the alcohol had passed.

There is no known cure for the physical allergy that causes craving once alcohol enter the body, but full recovery from the mental obsession is possible – thereby breaking the terrible cycle and solving the problem – through spiritual awakening as the result of the Twelve Steps or some other such spiritual solution.

It is only through spiritual methods that the obsession has ever been removed . In other words, divine intervention.

You don’t have to go to Pune, Minnesota or NYC and let people take your money for that. There is no solve through any known human aid. Only folks selling “services” who want you to think so. Sorry.

The good news is that recovered alcoholics – people like me – help other alcoholics recover and expect NOTHING in return. And our method works where all others have failed.

Peace,

Danny S

Question by Lucy: What is the addiction and recovery rate for antidepressants?
What is the addiction and recovery rate for antidepressants? Please include website you found the information on. THANK YOU!!!!

Answer by ixi26c
I am a psychopharmacology student (drugs and behavior). After Thanksgiving we’re going to discuss antidepressants in-depth. But what I already know tells me you do not become addicted to antidepressants. Also, the whole concept of “addiction” isn’t defined. What you’re probably referring to is physical dependency. You would not experience this. Physical dependency is characterized by withdrawal symptoms that tend to be exaggerrated and opposite effects of the drug. But antidepressants, specifically SSRIs (Zoloft, Prozac) have a very long half-life which means it takes a very long time for the body to rid itself of the drug. When you switch antidepressants you have to wait a couple of weeks before trying a new one, otherwise you may risk serotonin toxicity (which is a neurotransmitter in your brain). If you want web sources, why don’t you just search google? I’d be careful about what web sources you trust, however. I’d more readily trust books.

Answer by stillstanding
That all depends on which drug you are talking about.

I can only speak from personal experience here and not scientific studies or the like.

I am now on Lexapro and it has helped me get over the hump of my depression, and with no side effects as of yet.

I also have heard many people praise this drug, both doctors and patients, but statistics really don’t matter at all for antidepressants.

This is because every person taking these drugs react differently to them, regardless of how many other people have been helped by a specific drug.

Antidepressant use is really just a trial and error process, no matter how popular or effective any specific drug becomes (like Prozac).

Question by Evan: What are your opinions on internet “addiction” being declared a medical problem?
I don’t know how recently or exactly who is doing this, but internet “addiction” is being classified as an actual medical problem. I dont know if it already is or if people are just trying to make it so, but i recently heard about it.

What are your thoughts on this?
I personally think that the people calling it a medical problem and the people that will claim to be addicted to the internet are just looking for some way to justify extensive use of the internet. people are looking for mroe and more ways to put blame on something other than themselves for what they do. its rather pathetic.

Answer by J C
Well, they have to label everything so why not say it is a medical problem? I don’t buy it.

Answer based on U.S.

Social work job duties/responsibilities will depend of course on the job position we have, which as you can see below will definitely vary on the type of work we do.

Social workers can work in various settings, to include administrative jobs. Some individuals with social work degrees, for example, write grants, do research and work on fundraiser in agencies that may be not for proft. Social workers work in health care settings (hospice, home health, hospitals, nursing homes); mental health settings (state department of mental health, residential treatment centers, alcohol/drug rehab, etc); dept of social services (child protective services, foster care, investigator, etc); other state jobs may include probation and parole officers; youth services (to include juvenile facilities, counseling, residential); dept of aging (adult protective services, community support worker); maternal health (education, home visits, etc); and other public health positions. Social workers who have their Masters in Social Work and typically a clinical license can work for the federal government, to include the Veterans Administration as well as a civilian working on military installations.

Other positions may include working as a victim advocate; domestic violence shelters; grass roots organizations (i.e. I saw a job looking for a social worker to work for Mothers Against Drunk Driving); organizations/agencies that provide services for those who are homeless (i.e. Salvation Army, catholic charities).

A good online job search is “Indeed” http://www.indeed.com By searching for position in working with youth, youth at risk, etc. this can give you a sense of the qualifications/job duties.

An example of a job description in working with youth is a youth counseling III position with the state of Colorado. Salary: $ 4,969.00 – $ 7,168.00 Monthly. “This position exists to provide leadership and clinical direction to the treatment team at the facility. In addition, this position is experienced in clinical mental health and family interventions and serves as the Clinical Director to provide oversight for the treatment services at the facility.” Minimum Qualifications “Education Requirements: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in behavioral science, correctional science, corrections, counseling, counseling psychology, criminal justice, criminology, education, guidance and counseling, helping/human services, human and development, psychology, rehabilitation counseling, social work, sociology or youth and adult corrections.” http://www.colorado.gov/
