Question by Frank N: Why do cops love shooting innocent people and abusing the handicapped?
It’s sad that just like prohibition, our current drug laws only empower criminals and lead to violent crime. Everyone knows cops need to be around to protect us against rapists, killers, robbers etc. But why do cops murder people over a plant that God gave us as a gift? Why do cops enjoy murdering people and going all commando like clowns? Read some of these stories and answer.

I’m not saying all plants are healthy, and if you were educated, which you obviously are not, you would know that alcohol and tobacco are infinitely more dangerous than marijuana. That’s a scientific fact.

Which plant are you talking about?? The plants that “gave” us heroin and poisonous mushrooms?

Do you realize there are THOUSANDS of “plants” in this world that are hazardous to your health?

Please don’t tell me you are insinuating that since something is a plant, it’s gotta be good for you!!!!

Edit:

If YOU were educated, you would be able to read and understand what I posted. I said nothing about marijuana, alcohol, or tobacco. YOU are the one that mentioned specific plants. I simply made a FACTUAL statement, which you obviously didn’t like because it ruined your entire “God gave us plants therefore they are a gift from God” claim!! But, since you mention it…using your line of logic…tobacco is a plant…it’s gotta be a “gift from God”, huh? Why are you talking about how bad it is for you?

My statement is FACT. If you don’t like it, too bad!!!! Deal with it!!!!

BTW

Alcohol…taken in moderation (1 drink per day)…is actually beneficial to your health. Your “scientific fact” is WRONG!!!

Because they can get away with it with those people. Usually they act a little different around someone that can get in even one lucky punch because they don’t want to have to explain to their buddies they got hit by a perp even if they do beat them have to death afterwards.

Question by May’n: Is there some sort of “rehab” program for video game addicts?
My boyfriend is in his early 20’s and has been obsessed with an online MMORPG for months now. At first, it was okay, but now it’s very bad. Generally, he’s logging eight hours per day, but it’s not unusual for him to play all night long, get zero sleep, nod off at work, and come home to play more. I’m worried that he’s addicted because, every time I ask him to stop playing in the middle, he literally can’t. He’s played for 14 hours in the past day already. He even almost called in sick to work because of it. Not only that, but he can’t converse while he’s playing it. He can’t finish sentences and he even says things that aren’t true that he doesn’t remember later, like he’s possessed. Sometimes he has phone interviews and he ruins them.

Is there a resource that can help people who have this addiction? I feel that it’s a very real addiction, and also a major health concern, because it’s increasingly common for him to ignore his own needs for sleep and food and such in order to keep playing this game.

Also, on a more candid note, as his girlfriend, I’m ready to full-on murder this stupid dumbass game =P So please help if you sympathize =)

I found a perfect site (its in the source) but first a few ideas from me:
1. Talk to him about it. Make him sit down far away from the game and talk. If you need to, maybe take him out for dinner to get him away.
2. Bet his parents involved :). He probably wont like it at first but believe me, its one of the best things you can do.
3. Go on holiday somewhere with NO INTERNET.
4. If worst comes to worst, try to have mysterious “power outages” and talk with him then 🙂

I really hope that this helps you.

Answer by mr. mister
I personally hate MMOs and just can’t see how anyone could get addicted to them. They aren’t even game experiences! They are the bare minimum of what the word game stands for, and they totally lack all good game mechanics, cinematics, graphics, and a proper hacking solution. Honestly, if MSFT hasn’t been hacked with their Live servers, there is no reason for any MMO to be. MMO companies are just careless nowadays and will do the bare minimum to get by.

As for your question, there doesn’t seem to be any type of rehab for this, but it is an addiction, and should be taken seriously like one. The one thing you can do is stop paying the bills and rent a hotel for a week. Then see what he really appreciates more. If he chooses them over you, you can do a hell of a lot better.

Question by Jenn: A job as a drug and alcohol counselor?
Do I have to get some type of degree to become and drug and alcohol counselor or get certified to be one?

Best answer:

Answer by engakwasdky
Yes and Yes.

As far as degrees go, you will have to get at least a bachelor’s degree in social work or other mental health field (psychology, sociology, etc.). Now, some facilities will hire you with just a bachelor’s degree and give you the title of a “counselor”, but MOST facilities require you to have a master’s degree in mental health counseling, counseling psychology, or social work. And as a word of advice, most places require you to have a master’s degree in social work (MSW) for insurance billing purposes.

Certification depends on where you live, but I believe each state has it’s own board of addictions certification. You may be able to search for the requirements on Google (or I may be able to help if I knew what state you reside in). In many cases, you will be able to obtain employment and work as a counselor while waiting for certification. Some certs will require you to be employed as a counselor for a set number of years so they know you have experience and actually know what you are doing. In other words, certification is not necessarily something you need to do before you start job searching. However, not to confuse you, but if you do get your MSW most counseling agencies require that you have your license to practice as a social worker. This is something that all social workers have the option of doing regardless of the field of social work they are entering (i.e., hospital social work, gerontology, etc.).

Let me know if you have any more questions! The field of drug/alcohol dependency is rapidly growing, so counselors are in high demand!
