Keith Urban Checks Into Rehab
Oct 20, 3:30 PM EST

The Associated Press

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Keith Urban has checked himself into a rehabilitation treatment center for alcohol abuse, less than four months after his marriage to actress Nicole Kidman.

The Grammy-winning country singer released a statement Friday that said he entered rehab Thursday night with his wife by his side. His publicist would not give the location of the rehab center.

“I deeply regret the hurt this has caused Nicole and the ones that love and support me,” Urban said in the statement.

Urban, who turns 39 on Oct. 26, has publicly acknowledged a former addiction to cocaine.

“One can never let one’s guard down on recovery, and I’m afraid that I have,” the statement read.

Urban’s new CD, “Love, Pain, & the whole crazy thing,” will be released Nov. 7 as scheduled, but he will postpone all upcoming promotional appearances.

Urban will also likely cancel a scheduled appearance on the Country Music Association awards next month, the publicist said.

Kidman and Urban, who were both raised in Australia, married on June 25 in Sydney. They then moved to Nashville, where Urban records.

Urban won a Grammy this year for best male country vocalist for “You’ll Think of Me,” and was named top male vocalist for the second year in a row by the Academy of Country Music.

A Country Weekly magazine reader poll this year named him country music’s sexiest man.

Question by jpc8015: Seceding from the States?
Did anybody hear about the Lakota Indian Tribe wanting to disolve their treaties with the federal government and set up their own country? Is this a good idea for them? How would they manage without federal aid for everything from “cultural centers” to drug and alcohol rehabilitation? At some point would we need to go and forcibly take their land back from them in order to save them from themselves? What would the consequences be, could we then take away their status as a soveirgn nation and not give them treaties?

Answer by Perplexed Bob
Well, considering the living conditions on reservations, I don’t see how they were be losing much if they declared their own country.

Answer by Fancy That
technically, all Native tribes are considered their own nation. So the US has many nations with in the nation.

I think we’ve done quite enough ‘forcibly taking their land’. And you cannot take back what you never had a right to in the first place. That property belonged to these people long before we came along.

It is the right of any group to define their culture, as long as it doesn’t pick my pocket or break my leg.

Question by Frenzy: How often must one get drunk before you would consider them an alcoholic? ?
With what frequency must drinking to get drunk, not having a glass of wine over dinner for instance, occur before you would consider a person an alcoholic?

I don’t buy into this AA mythology that alcoholism is a disease, by the way. It’s an expression of a specific behavior – excessive consumption of alcohol to get become inebriated. So, if you happen to be a member of that cult, you don’t have to answer this question.

Well, the doctors say, I think it is one or two drinks a day is OK, maybe three stretching it, so take it from there, then you are damaging your body

Answer by bmwfanboy1990
I think it when it interfears with your life, so assuming you work mon to fri, you could get drunk 2 times a week, friday and saturday, and be ok, meaning it would be 3 times a week for an alcoholic.
