Question by Amberly: What can my doctor do for ambien addiction?
I want to get off of ambien and sleep aids all together, but when I try to do it myself, I get extremely sick and can’t stop shaking and vomiting. If I make an appointment with my doctor, what can he do for me? I dont feel that my problem is big enough for “rehab”, but I definitely know that I need some sort of intervention.

You can’t quit cold turkey. That is very bad for your body. You need to gradually reduce your intake and your body will become readjusted and no longer need it. Talk to your doctor about your desire to stop taking it, he will advise you how eventually quit. But you can’t just stop taking it all at once. Tell him the effects when you stop taking it. You need to GRADUALLY reduce your intake, most likely over a period of a month or two. I’m not a doctor but I know if you stop taking medication and try to quit cold turkey your body will react badly.

He can advise how to quit SAFELY and alternatives

Melatonin is a natural sleep aide that is non habit forming.

Answer by dot
No you wont need rehab for this
But you do need help from your doctor to do it
He will slowly and gradually get you off them
You are making yourself worse by trying this yourself

Question by Meghan W.: General addiction support?
I have what I believe to be an addiction, but it does not fall into the regular “groups” (Drugs, Alcohol, Sex/Porn, etc). Are there any general addiction support groups where I could seek peer aid?

Best answer:

Answer by kim s
It’s kinda hard to help if we don’t know what the addiction is. But there might be a support group for it. Maybe try googling it instead.

National Alliance of Mental Illness

They have support groups in many cities. See if your city has a group. They meet 1-3 a month for an hour and a half. Talking helps. You will be surprised that you aren’t alone.

I use to be addicted to beer and cigarettes and sex. After my divorce and having a child I stopped all that. But I’m now addicted to spending money on crap. Purses, pens, lighthouses, books, food. I’m also addicted to food. Big time! My health isn’t good because of it. I’m also addicted to Yahoo Answers 🙂

Good luck

Question by Lauren Luxe: What is your opinion on medical marijuana?
Do you believe it is helpful or destructive? Do you think it is beneficial or dangerous? Do you think it helps solve more problems than it creatives? Do you think it actually destroys white matter in your brain? Do you believe that brain cells are not capable of producing more brain cells?

There are many different views on the issue regarding medical grade marijuana.
A lot of published online reports contain falsified information to persuade people in order to create this idea that may not necessarily be true.

In your opinion, what is the best way to legalize marijuana?

And on that topic, what do you think will happen to all the other “addicts” who wish to legalize their own “drug of choice.”

In the wise words of Bob Marley, “Smoke the herb and it reveals yourself to you.” Do you think that is true?

In the words written in some texts, people believe that every plant, every animal, every living thing, somebody saw all of the uses for them and saw that it was “GOOD.”

What is your stance on this argument?
Please include supporting information and trustworthy sources. Thank you.

Answer by Boiled Angel
I believe it’s helpful, I believe it’s beneficial, I think it will solve problems, and I do not believe it destroys brain matter and the brain is capable of producing more brain cells.

I think the best way to legalize it is to market it and tax it. It will generate so much profit that it will pay for some of our debt. We will also save money from having to convict those who are charged with crimes involving it. Putting someone in prison is expensive!

I do believe Bob Marley’s words are true. From my experience with the stuff, I have found out many things about myself that I wouldn’t have realized otherwise.

I’m not saying Marijuana is the best thing in the world that will solve all of our problems, I just think it’s ridiculous that it’s illegal. It makes no sense. Well, it actually does make sense because there are a lot of greedy rich bastards out there who would fall if it became legal.

Answer by Mrs. Eric Cartman
Looks like someone is doing a paper, haha. Visit cracked.com and read the arguments for and against pot. Do a search.

As for my opinion, I’m 100% for it. Prescription drugs are dangerous; pot is not. I’ve known two truly sick people who benefitted greatly from it. Cops never get called in for a domestic violence situation when it’s weed. It’s all drunks. Most of the dangerous stuff is legal. You can get it from ABC liquor or the doctor. Weed is harmless. If drugs were legal, it would destroy the illegal drug trade. The govt spends millions fighting the drug trade, and drugs are easier for minors to get than beer. People are dying over WEED. Going to jail over weed. The prison systems want to keep it illegal because they want money. They want to house people. It turns normal citizens into criminals and gets them in the system. It’s greedy and it’s irrational.

Question by Logan: How would I write this paragraph more intelligently?
“Though using drugs is a person’s own decision, it has been proven that there are also uncontrollable elements in the process of drug addiction. Though environment and genes are important variables in initial drug use and continued drug addiction, staying away from drugs in the first place is the only sure way of not becoming a drug addict.”

I need this last paragraph of my essay to sound more sophisticated. I have horrible writer’s block at the moment and can’t think of how to reword this. I also need 2 or 3 more sentences added to it. Can anyone rewrite this more intelligently for me? Will award best answer if I use your sentence!

The use of proscribed drugs is a personal choice but one that most simply ‘fall into’ rather than after careful consideration. Saying ‘NO’ as the adverts told us, is not really a very practical solution in the restriction of their uses as peer pressure has been shown to be a fairly important factor, particularly when ‘bullying’ or the demeaning of an individual for not being part of the group, is added. The mystique of drug taking requires to be eradicated before any real effect will be made on this modern-day scourge and there is no better antidote than to ‘stay away’ from all forms of proscribed drugs.

Answer by Asdfghjkl
Although the decision to use drugs is a matter of free will, it is important to note that there are other elements, such as environmental influences and genetic impulses, which often contribute to the development of substance dependance. For those who may have a hereditary history of substance abuse it is best to abstain, but it would be naive to assume that such an idea could garner influence in a society where the use of illicit substances is so prevalent. The best thing that we can do is encourage people to research substances, dosage, and appropriate usage before attempting to try anything and also provide open communication and paths to rehabilitation for those who may have developed dependancy.

I dunno what you were going for but I’m pro drug use so I threw that last bit in there for consideration. Abstinence just doesn’t work. It’s like abstinence only sex education.. doesn’t do **** and those kids are probably even more likely to experiment with sex than the kids who get actual sex ed.. so what ends up happening is that because they don’t have any knowledge of contraception and STD’s they end up screwing their **** up. And then on top of that those people who are PRO abstinence are also PRO life so then people can’t get abortions either. Just something you should consider. It’s better to promote knowledge than it is to scare people into staying away from something.
