Question by : Drug testing as a camp counselor?
I just got a job as a camp counselor and in the camp guidelines it says this “I understand that
smoking, use or possession of alcohol or drugs will lead to my immediate dismissal. I agree to
participate in —-‘s drug and alcohol testing policy.” But then the only other thing that says anything about drug testing is this. ” We personally review all of the department of motor vehicles records on all drivers prior to each summer and all drivers participate in a drug screening program.” which is clearly directed to only drivers. Does this mean they will drug test me? the session is 39 days long.
i am not a driver. I applied to be a camp counselor. I am already hired and have already signed and sent in the contract as well as my W-4 forms.

Answer by Nurse Jacki
It sounds as though you have to agree to adhere to their policy– but what is that policy? Some employers only test you if there has been an incident that raises questions. Every company is different. My son drives a company vehicle, and his employer only screens if there is a moving violation or an accident.
I work for a substance abuse treatment center, and not only are we frequently, randomly tested, but if you do anything at any time that might raise an eyebrow, you are tested. Trip going down the stairs, set a little fire in your wastebasket, call your boss a cooze; you’re going to be peeing in a cup.
So you might have to pass a drug screen prior to hire, you might never be tested, or you might be tested if you wear two different socks.
Do you know anyone that worked there previously? It would be helpful to ask them.

Well..u could have an intervention…or ur family could take a stand and say that she cannot stay with them unless she is sober and willing to undergo a drug test to prove it–thats about all that u really can do-u can’t control someone else’s behavior, only whether or not ur going to enable that behavior

Answer by Dan M
I had a mother like this. We got her into a mental home, 6 years later after alot of hard work she’s nearly back to her old self. I don’t know what to suggest for this as i don’t know the effects of meth. I can only assure you that everything will be ok as long as you support her and get her off the drugs.

The mood swings can be avoided, try to keep her away from natural surroundings, where she may have taken drugs, or a place that reminds her of drugs.

This is cruel and unusual treatment for the courts to expect for your addiction to just disappear knowing the dangers and suffering involved in withdrawal. While you are thinking in a reasonable fashion enroll into a detox treatment designed for your type of addiction. Quite naturally I don’t have any confidence or respect for a PO that would require you to test clean, just because you got out of jail. When you are clean, you are passed the physical and psychological affects of the drug. The drug can no longer be regarded as a part of your life. It can’t be regarded ever as an option. Until you get to this point, you are not clean. It is still causing destruction in your system. Sobriety is a gift from God. It is a new life. Once you can plan your new life, this stuff will seem so stupid, you won’t even think about it.

Just tell the PO that you need a program, if one is available, or can he offer a referral. This is a source that explains what is available. There are several programs online just surf “Opiate detox Program”. We need to get out of here!

The DEA website would be a good one. Also law enforcement statistics would help you as well as prison population numbers. If you speak a foreign language that may help as well, especially spanish since that would let you read up on what’s going on in Mexico, Colombia, Peru, Bolivia and all those countries.
