Question by usa_jcrew68: Can you think of some ideas on how we can prevent school shootings?
The VA Tech massacre, the Columbine killings, and countless other school shootings has created fear and paranoia in the our schools and society. We realized since 911 anything devastating can happen at any moment. The VA tech incident (even though it wasnt terrorist related)has created a a higher “awareness” in our society. I think gun control, random drug testing, and mental health testing should be the norm in all institutions.
List some other reasonable ideas that can prevent a shooting like this from occuring again?
Best answer:
Answer by Roadkill
Arm the students and faculty. Banning guns from schools just creates unarmed victims at the mercy of someone who doesn’t obey the gun ban.

Question by fancychancie: How to get my brother to stop smoking pot and start going to school?
I am 22, my sister is 20, my little brother (star of this discussion) is 15, my dad is 54. My little brother is a major pot smoker and it has ruined his 1st year of high school cause he is ALWAYS ditching to go smoke. My dad has given him drug tests and he will fail them, so my dad will take away his Xbox, phone, allowance basically everything he enjoys. NONE of this seems to phase him, he’s still ditching, smoking, getting all Fs. We have talked with the school counselor multiple times and each time it ends in something along these lines “Well, he is on my list, but keeping him in school and not smoking isn’t my job.” He DOES NOT want to help, my dad has to work to support us so he can’t follow him around all day and make sure my brother is attending. My dad is at his wits end, any more suggestions that will help us get a grasp on this kid again will be much appreciated!
Thanks

Is he a human? He doesnt wanna help, study, work. Let him smoke, he’ll die someday you take his xbox and enjoy. Or take a fake lung cancer test and say that he has lung cancer and is gonna die after 4 months and cant be saved now.

Question by Speed, Madness, Flying Saucers: How does someone restart their career in the workforce after drug addiciton?
This is follow-up to the question I posed yesterday regarding “how to act around a neighbor who just lost his 2nd job due to a failed drug test.”
He has recognized that he has to give up doping if he is going to continue to have a job. He’s pretty shellshocked right now. Living in a small town, how can he rehabilitate his reputaton as a worker once he’s sober? He needs to have an income and is in imminent danger of losing his home. He isn’t new to the work force. He’s been gainfully employed since 1976 (only had the two jobs he’s lost) and has numerous “employee of the month/year awards.” He has a strong worth ethic.
It’s already been established that his predicament is a fx. of his own actions. What actions does he need to take now? Or is it pointless?
Thanks.

Well after he successfully completes rehab the only way for him to regain his reputation is to work himself back to that level. It is not something that is going to be accomplished without a bit of work but it can be done. He also needs to find a support chain to leave back on when he finds himself slipping. That way he can keep from falling back into bad habits.
I hired an ex crack addict and she proved herself to be an excellent worker but trust me it didnt happen over night she had to work her way back. ‘
Good luck
