OxyContin addiction is one that is growing tremendously. An increasing number of people are taking this prescription painkiller to get high. Addiction to prescription drugs such as Oxycontin is becoming a real problem and one that has to be addressed sooner rather then later. While it is impossible to eradicate drug use (or it would have been done by now), it is important that those who can, do something about it. This includes everyone in the community such as parents, schools and law enforcement officers. Drug rehab facilities typically come into the picture after an individual has already developed an OxyContin addiction.

While drug rehab facilities are extremely important because they help individuals reclaim their lives, the best approach is a preventative one. However, because it is not possible to stop individuals who want to use drugs from doing so, the drug rehabilitation community will have a major role to play in the fight against OxyContin addiction after it occurs.

An OxyContin addiction often times develops accidently. A person may initially have had an injury that required painkillers and were prescribed them by their doctor, became physically dependent on them and then developed an addiction. Oxycontin and similar painkillers are very addicting and individuals have to be careful or they can indeed become hooked very quickly.

After a person discovers that they are having a difficult time getting by without using the drugs, rehab should be the next step. However, this is not often what happens. Instead, persons look for ways to obtain the drug and continue with their OxyContin addiction.

Some people begin using them after having been legitimately prescribed the drug, often times after surgery. They then develop a physical dependency that leads to addiction. Other individuals simply enjoy the way that the drug makes them feel. Either way, once individuals become hooked on these very addicting drugs, they are willing to go to great lengths to get it. This includes doctor shopping, stealing from family, friends and acquaintances and well as prescription forgery. Individuals with an OxyContin addiction should get help as soon as possible from a qualified and proven drug facility.

Oxycontin abuse has been growing at a rapid clip. More and more individuals are using this particular drug and not for pain relief. There has been a huge increase in the use of prescription painkillers such as Vicodin, OxyContin and Dermerol. These are prescribed by physicians for patients that require pain maintenance. Sometimes these individuals end up become addicted to them. Other individuals simply like how Oxycontin makes them feel. Subsequently, they begin to abuse it. Unfortunately for some, this also results in an addiction.

Oxycontin abuse has become a serious problem that health officials and law enforcement officers are committed to confronting and hopefully reducing. Individuals that are addicted to these drugs exhibit the same behaviors as those addicted to street drugs. They can easily cause persons to lose the ability to care for them selves, keep a job, become employed and take care of their family and property. Individuals can quickly deteriorate and become unrecognizable to their families and friends.

One of the biggest problems with Oxycontin abuse is that it can occur for a good length of time without anyone knowing. When a person is able to keep their addiction a secret, there is no one there to pressure them to seek help. Also, an addict may fail to realize that they have a problem because they have been able to fool everyone. However, this is inaccurate. An individual may in fact be an addict, just a functioning one.

Because someone who abuses Oxycontin can get the drug legally, it is also easy for him or her to abuse the drugs and no one, not even their family members or friends, suspect a thing. It is typically after a person is caught taking a large quantity of the drugs, begin to act high and “out of it,” takes the drug even when they are not injured or overdoses, before there is a realization that there is a problem. Often by this time, the individual is deep in the throes of Oxycontin abuse.

Oxycontin abuse can be treated in a drug rehabilitation center. Drug rehab programs provide treatment to those addicted to both illegal and legal drugs. A person can choose a regular program or they can enter a medicinal based one. The later would include the use of methadone or buprenorphine. These drugs are given to addicts in lieu of the Oxycontin. The amount given is tapered off until the individual is totally off of the methadone or buprenorphine. This makes the quitting process much easier. There are fewer and less severe withdrawal symptoms which gives the user a greater chance of sticking with the rehab process.

Many people will quit only a few days after attempting to quit because they can not make it through the withdrawal period. Usually this lasts just a few days but it can be the roughest days of a person’s life and causes many people to quit the rehab and recovery process even before they really get started.

Meth can quickly consume an individual’s body and person. All of their thoughts are on how to obtain more drugs. One of the most alarming traits of the addiction is how fast a person deteriorates. They can be perfectly normal one day and nearly unrecognizable in only a few short months. An addict might also be in their right mind before using the drug and become a totally different person after they begin using. It was this disturbing and quick transformation that convinced law enforcement and officials to take action.

The goal of these institutions was to make it more difficult for meth cooks to get the raw materials that they needed to make the drug. One of the reasons meth use spread so fast was that people could easily and cheaply make it themselves. Sure, there were some risk involved, most notably chemical burns and explosions of the meth labs, however, people were willing to accept them if they were able to get the drugs. In many areas, there were a few cooks who provided the drug for those in close proximity. As a result, most people did not have to create the drugs themselves but could still get it. The cook would become rather skilled in creating a product that was cheap and extremely potent because of its’ purity. The more pure the drug, the more danger it poses to the users and the easier it is to become addicted.

Drug and alcohol rehab facilities have seen a surge in the need of Crystal meth addiction treatment. At some facilities, this is among the fastest growing needs. Meth use along with prescription drug abuse are becoming two of the most harrowing and growing problems in our country. These two classes of drugs are creating an increasing number of addicts of all age groups and from all walks of life.

As more and more people enter rehab for Crystal meth addiction treatment, centers are being forced to pull out all of the stops and utilize their best resources to help individuals get clean. However, they will need more help, mostly on the preventative front. Law enforcement and local governments have stepped up. They have made it more difficult for meth cooks to get the supplies that they need in order to create meth. While this has helped tremendously on the domestic front, the ability of smugglers to bring in the drugs from other countries is causing a new problem. The Federal Drug Enforcement Agencies will need to continue to wage battle against those that are bringing the drugs into this country.

Parents, churches and the community at large, will also need to speak out about meth use and the potential dangers that exists if one chooses to even try the drug. There are some local agencies and organizations that are doing just that. In areas that have been particularly hard hit by crystal meth addiction, there have been billboard and television campaigns with the aim of decreasing its’ use.

Local health and state officials as well as law enforcement have circled the wagons in an attempt to make it harder for individuals to “cook” or create meth. It was fairly easy for individuals to go to a variety of stores and purchase the 2 bottle maximum of cough syrup. If a person had a team of people working with them, it was possible to get a decent amount of it. However, it did make things harder because getting the medicine in bulk was no longer possible for the most part.

Partly because of this, homemade meth creation in the United States has slowed some. However, the Mexican production of the drug has increased to meet the growing demand in the States. Today, it is being smuggled to the U.S. in large quantities and in some places taking over the market. The drug isn’t as pure as what it created here and so many addicts are going back to making it themselves, just in smaller batches.

Eventually, they may need to check themselves into a very good drug rehab center.
