Question by Jessica MMM: my son VOLUNTARILY admitted himself into rehab 3 years ago, does this exclude him from posessing a foid card?
he was 16 at the time, it was not court ordered and the firearms owner act is poorly worded they do not define “mental health facility” as a rehabilitation center and on the application says it’s a felony to falsely admit info. so what im wondering is since he was self mandated, received no physiciatric care while staying, and also was never banned by a professional that he is not able to obtain a FOID card. so does this mean he’s still eligible because he loves hunting and is looking toward getting a rifle.

i don’t think it makes any difference whether it was voluntary or not. he still went to rehab

if i were you, i would check with someone. there should be a contact number or something like that on the foid application form, or online if you google it. ring them and ask if that counts as a mental health facility

Answer by StealthBeast
I’m pretty sure it’s okay. They intentionally make exception for the word voluntary so you don’t have to choose between necessary help and constitutional rights…

Sad really, that you need to worry about this.

But neither my answer nor the guy above me is qualified to answer. I think you need to ask someone more locally, and officially like the police, that way if the police it’s okay, get that in writing… If stuff goes south, you’ll have covered your bases.

Good luck.

Question by ima45limabean: I need an idea for a presentation in my drugs and addiction class?
I have to give a 10 to 15 minute presentation in one of my addiction study classes called “Drugs and Addictions” Any ideas??? Anyone?? I was going to do it on meth babies but Im just not sure.

Best answer:

Answer by Wide Awake
Well, that’s an interesting subject.

You could also do a presentation on Oxycontin abuse, since it is so widespread and has led to major societal impacts, especially in some small towns. We tend to forget that people can get addicted to prescription drugs as well as “street” drugs – look at Rush Limbaugh.

Or, you could talk about the epidemic of cough syrup abuse and addiction that seems to be sweeping entire schools lately, though I fear you will find less evidence and news stories on this.

Good luck!

Answer by Don’t Make Me Come In There!
Do your report on meth and tooth decay. I just saw a documentary on “meth mouth”…OMG, if anything will keep you from doing meth….THAT will. There was a dentist that traveled to prisons to extract the teeth of meth users…he was extracting 200 teeth per week!

Question by guy o: Have you ever found an OD from marijuana?
If it’s so bad, why do you never see victims in the ER? Alcohol kills around 400,000 anually, yet that’s OK?
It has been researched for the past 50 years with no conclusion that it’s bad for you. The JAMA did have a report of heart troubles, but I think McDonalds would kill you quicker.
And before you say it, it is no more gateway drug than cigarettes or alcohol. I’ve met coke addicts who have never tried it once. Now cocaine, that kills! And alcohol was their gateway drug BTW.
Old Fuzz. All drugs are bad? Like all cops are bad? Ok, why is pot bad? You still havn’t substantiated your point. To find someone in a snowbank says nothing, plenty of clean and sober people die in their cars caught in blizzards. Argueably, the abuse of ANYTHING is detrimental to your health; but that’s not the question. Make your case, like you did in court. Give me the proof.

Best answer:

Answer by James R
Na, Marijuana is not toxic enough to kill.

In the history of mankind no one has died from Marijuana. It is simply impossible.

I think they were testing rats or mice or something, and for an overdoes you would need to consume(or smoke) the equivalent of your bodywieght.

Worst thing that can happen is you pass out.

Answer by Old Fuzz
Looks like the conclusion is, ALL drugs are bad.

I’ve never found a dead guy, O.D. on marijuana. I have found them dead of exposure because they were too stoned to get out of a snow bank. I have found them dead in a car because they were just as impaired as any other drunk driver.
